Increased Vigilance in Pro-Western Visayas Ahead of May 13 Elections
Revamped Update:
Gearing Up for Secure Midterm Elections in Western Visayas
In a bid to ensure a smooth and orderly voting experience for all, the Western Visayas region has beefed up its security measures ahead of the upcoming midterm elections on May 13, 2025.
Securing the Vote
As part of its intensified security preparations, the Police Regional Office (PRO 6) has geared up to secure all polling centers across the region. Director of PRO 6, Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, affirmed this commitment, stating, "It's our job to make sure our citizens can exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation."
Regional Security Plan
The regional security plan, which PRO 6 has finalized, focuses on preventing threats, maintaining public order, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. This strategy includes regular checkpoints set up by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), intensified intelligence and anti-criminality operations, and the deployment of additional police personnel to high-risk areas.
Broadening the Scope
While the focus is on the upcoming elections, Wanky assured citizens that PRO 6 remains committed to performing its broader law enforcement responsibilities. These include ongoing campaigns against illegal drugs, wanted persons, illegal possession of firearms, and illegal gambling.
A Unified Front
Coordination between major agencies, such as the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), the Comelec, and PRO 6, is crucial. A final pre-election meeting was held at the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) in Western Visayas to align their strategies.
Increased Presence
As part of the security deployments, around 8,400 police personnel from PRO 6 have been deployed to cover polling places. In addition, over 4,000 AFP troops are strategically positioned throughout Western Visayas to reinforce security, particularly in areas of concern.
Combating Threats
Through continuous intelligence efforts, potential threats and disruptions are identified and addressed throughout the election period. Encouraging public participation in maintaining peace is vital, and the Comelec is urging voters to actively engage in the electoral process, acknowledging the power of the ballot in shaping the nation.
With these comprehensive measures in place, the Western Visayas region is prepared to ensure a successful, peaceful, and secure midterm election experience for its citizens. As Wanky emphasized, "vigilance and proactive policing are key to maintaining order and safety as we move into the coming days."
