In Eastern Ukraine, the town of Pokrovsk remains a focal point of the ongoing conflict, with both Ukrainian and Russian forces engaging in intense battles for control of the strategic transport hub.

For months, the Russian army has been attempting to capture Pokrovsk, but Ukrainian forces have managed to hold their ground. The Ukrainian army denies reports of a Russian breakthrough in the Pokrovsk and Dobropillia areas in the Donetsk region, emphasizing that while small groups of Russian soldiers have infiltrated Pokrovsk itself, they have not taken control of these areas.

Recent reports suggest that Russia is preparing for new offensive operations on multiple fronts in Ukraine, including the Zaporizhia (Saporischschja), Pokrovsk, and Novopavlivka directions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Russia may transfer troops to enhance their offensive capabilities in these areas, among others, by deploying additional troops from other sectors like the Sumy Oblast.

The exact strategy for these new offensives involves seizing key settlements and advancing in priority sectors of the front line. However, recent assessments indicate that Russian forces have not made significant advances in these areas, with ongoing operations but no confirmed breakthroughs.

Russian tactics have evolved to include persistent strikes and the use of sabotage and reconnaissance groups to weaken Ukrainian defenses before advancing. The 1st Asov Corps of the National Guard has taken up defensive positions in Pokrovsk to halt advancing Russian forces, with Ukrainian forces also deploying additional troops to the region.

The situation in Pokrovsk is described as "complex and dynamic" by the 1st Asov Corps, with the Russian army making 35 attempts to break through Ukrainian defensive lines throughout the day. Despite these efforts, a roughly 15-kilometer-wide corridor remains for resupply in Pokrovsk, and the city itself, though largely destroyed in the fighting, has not yet fallen to Russian forces.

The city of Pokrovsk and the surrounding urban agglomeration of Myrnohrad are now surrounded on three sides by Russian troops. This intense fighting in the Pokrovsk region is more severe compared to other sectors, with the 1st Asov Corps stating that the city remains a key concern due to its strategic importance as a transport hub.

President Zelensky has justified the continued presence of Ukrainian troops in the Donbass region as necessary to prevent the Russians from gaining a foothold to prepare an offensive. The ongoing conflict in Pokrovsk underscores the need for continued vigilance and resistance in the face of Russian aggression.
