Increase in Fees Leads to Removal of Deepika Padukone for Luxury Accommodation: Reason Behind Kalki's Decision
In a surprising turn of events, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been removed from the upcoming sequel of the sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD. The producers of the film, Nag Ashwin and C. Ashwin of Swapna Cinema and Vyjayanthi Movies, announced Deepika's exit in a note, citing unresolved contractual disagreements.
The dispute between Deepika and the producers reportedly started with her demands for a 25 percent increase in her acting fee and a five-star accommodation for her team of 25 people. Additionally, her team requested reimbursement for food for her entourage during the shoot.
The producers, concerned about the potential increase in the film's budget due to its heavy VFX requirements, were willing to negotiate finances. However, the producers offered a luxury vanity for rest in exchange for longer shoot hours, a proposal that Deepika declined.
Deepika's demands are also said to have contributed to her ouster from director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit. Reports suggest that she requested a seven-hour shift and a significant hike in her compensation, which apparently could not be met.
The note posted by the film's makers stated that the film 'deserves commitment' and that they were unable to find a partnership with Deepika. The note wished Deepika the best with her future projects, implying a commitment issue from her side.
Naga Ashwin, the film's director, hinted at a new leading lady with a cryptic Instagram story, fueling speculation about the next actress to take on the role in Kalki 2898 AD.
Deepika Padukone has not yet commented on the matter publicly. The actress is currently busy with the promotions of her upcoming film, 83, where she plays the role of Romi Dev, the wife of former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev.
