The major German coalition partners CDU/CSU, SPD, and Greens have come to a consensus on strengthening aid for Ukraine, with a staggering €3 billion reinforcement. CDU/CSU's parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz expressed optimism post-agreement, affirming that Chancellor Olaf Scholz has agreed to expedite the funds after the approval of the defense and infrastructure funding package.

Merz added, "From my standpoint, these €3 billion can now be allocated as extraordinary expenditure, at the very latest, with the federal council's decision next week. There's confirmation of that."

Both SPD and Greens affirmed the agreement as well, sparking a relief in discussions surrounding the €3 billion allocation for additional military supplies to Ukraine during the election campaign. Scholz had originally agreed to this provision under the stipulation that the debt-brake rule be eased.

As a result of their recent budget negotiations, CDU/CSU, SPD, and Greens have opted for a flexible debt-brake regulation concerning defense spending.
