India Weather Forecast: Active Monsoon Brings Heavy Rainfall Across the Country
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an active monsoon season for the country from July 10-16, 2025. The forecast indicates that most regions of India, including the northern, eastern, central, western, northeastern, and southern regions, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.
Northwest India
Consistent heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the plains and hills of Northwest India. East Rajasthan will see daily heavy rainfall with very heavy rain from July 11-14. West Rajasthan will have heavy rainfall on July 10 and from 12-16, with very heavy rain on July 14. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience heavy to very heavy rains throughout the period. Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh will see heavy rainfall on selected days with very heavy showers on some days including July 11 and 16.
East & Central India
Monsoon activity remains strong in East & Central India, with very heavy to isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Heavy rainfall is also forecast in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand. Moderate to heavy thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected, with isolated very heavy rainfall in some pockets.
West India
Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra, including Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra, are forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at some places. Saurashtra and Kutch will also see heavy rain towards the end of the period (July 26-29).
Northeast India
Enhanced monsoon activity will continue due to cyclonic circulations. Assam and surrounding states will receive widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall.
South Peninsular India
Kerala, Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will experience scattered to isolated heavy rainfall events with strong surface winds up to 50 kmph. Bangalore specifically is forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds on July 21, alongside mild temperatures and high humidity.
Delhi-NCR
Light to moderate rainfall is expected scattered over the region throughout July, with some days witnessing thunderstorms and a yellow alert for rainfall. Historically, by early September 2025, Delhi had already exceeded its annual rainfall average, indicating a strong monsoon season.
Locals are advised to stay updated with warnings, avoid waterlogged areas, and take safety precautions during thunderstorms and gusty winds. Farmers, local authorities, and emergency services should remain alert to prevent potential flood damage or landslides in vulnerable areas.
The IMD has attributed the active monsoon conditions to cyclonic circulations over Punjab and Assam, along with multiple troughs, which are enhancing monsoon conditions across northwest, central, eastern, western, northeastern, and peninsular India. This forecast indicates an active monsoon with periods of heavy to very heavy rainfall impacting most of India during July 10-16, 2025. Localized alerts and advisories suggest potential disruptions due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, and caution is advised in affected areas.
