Incident of gunfire recurred at Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada, as per report

In the early hours of August 7, 2025, Kapil Sharma's Kap's Cafe in Surrey, Canada, was once again the target of a shooting incident. The incident, which occurred around 4:40 a.m., caused damage to windows but thankfully, no injuries were reported to the staff present.

The shooting is alleged to have been claimed by Goldy Dhillon, a gangster linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Dhillon issued a warning of further action, possibly in Mumbai, via social media, claiming attempts to contact Sharma before the shooting.

This second shooting incident comes less than a month after the first attack on July 10, which also involved multiple shots fired. Harjit Singh Laddi, associated with the Babbar Khalsa International, claimed responsibility for the initial attack, citing alleged derogatory remarks made by Sharma about Nihang Sikhs as a motive.

Authorities are investigating various motives and avenues, including potential criminal or extortion-related activities in the region. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) stated that the investigation into the shooting is still in its early stages.

Kapil Sharma is cooperating fully with authorities, and Mumbai Police have stepped up his security in India as a precaution. No confirmed arrests or definitive motive have been publicly established yet, but the investigation is ongoing with authorities examining gang affiliations and community tensions.

The building where Kap's Cafe is located contains retail units at ground level and residential apartments above. Other businesses in the same building include a multi-faith centre and two yet-to-be-opened businesses.

Officers were seen gathering evidence at Kap's Cafe while children played outside a nearby daycare in the Newton neighborhood. Anyone with information regarding the shooting was asked to call police at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Spokesperson Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton stated that police were aware of reports in Indian media claiming a Khalistani separatist had claimed responsibility for the shooting. The cafe had opened earlier that week when the shooting occurred.

As the investigation continues, the community and authorities are left to grapple with the security concerns and potential motives behind these incidents. The shooting at Kap's Cafe has highlighted the need for increased vigilance and cooperation in addressing such incidents targeting South Asian businesses in Surrey.
