US Rapper Sean Kingston Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prison for Million-Dollar Luxury Fraud Scheme

Popular singer Sean Kingston, known for hits like "Beautiful Girls", has been sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison for his role in a $1 million luxury fraud scheme in South Florida. His mother, Janice Turner, was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for her involvement in the case.

The fraud scheme, which took place in 2024, involved Kingston and Turner falsely claiming to have made wire payments for high-end items such as a luxury SUV, jewelry, expensive watches, and a large TV. However, the payments were never completed. They used fake wire transfer receipts as proof of payment.

Evidence presented in court included a text message from Kingston to his mother instructing her to create a fake receipt to make it appear as if the transfer was imminent.

The sentencing took place in a Broward County federal courtroom. Federal prosecutors had sought a 5-year sentence for Kingston to match that of his mother, arguing they acted together. However, the judge gave Kingston a lesser sentence, citing his acceptance of responsibility and noting that he did not lie under oath during the trial, unlike his mother.

Kingston was arrested in May 2024 after a SWAT team raid on his rented mansion in Florida. He was later taken into custody at an Army training base in California and extradited to Florida.

The sentencing was reported by US media. Kingston's legal team had requested house arrest and compensation payments as an alternative to prison time, but the court did not grant these requests. In addition to prison time, Kingston will also serve 3 years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The charges against Kingston and Turner include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud counts. They were convicted last March and have been in custody since their arrest in 2024.
