Sean "Diddy" Combs, the renowned American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur, is set to face sentencing on October 3 following his guilty verdict in a federal prostitution case. The verdict, delivered on July 2, 2023, found Combs guilty of two counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution.

The court heard evidence of coercive behavior by Combs towards his ex-girlfriends, Cassie Ventura, an R&B singer, and a woman identified as "Jane." Evidence included travel records, hotel invoices, and videos of encounters referred to as "Freak Offs."

This verdict comes after a long history of allegations against Combs, dating back to 1990. He has faced repeated accusations of sexual misconduct, including charges of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and sexual harassment. At least 10 civil lawsuits have been filed against him concerning these abuses.

Notably, in November 2023, Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of rape, sex trafficking, physical abuse, forced drugging, and domestic violence over a decade-long on-and-off relationship starting around 2007. She alleged he raped her multiple times, physically assaulted her, and trafficked her, including an incident in 2018 when she ended the relationship.

Other plaintiffs, including minors and both men and women, have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse, sometimes involving drugs or hush money offers. Many reported the incidents to police, doctors, or the FBI.

In March 2024, federal agents raided Combs’ properties as part of an ongoing investigation. He was arrested in September 2024 on federal charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. The criminal trial began in 2025, during which Combs pleaded not guilty to all federal charges.

Despite his defense’s claims of a weak case, Combs was denied bail multiple times. The judge agreed with Cassie's legal team’s concerns about victim safety and did not grant the defense’s push for a $1 million bond and limited travel.

The outcome of the case could mark a turning point in how celebrity justice is perceived. Prosecutors are seeking up to 20 years in prison for Combs, citing his history of violence and threat to witnesses. The defense offered to skip a pre-sentencing report, but the judge expressed concern about the trial's complexity and the need for a thorough assessment.

Cassie's lawyer praised her courage in testifying, while Combs' attorneys called the verdict a partial win and maintain his innocence on the more severe charges. Reactions to the verdict were divided, with some supporters cheering Combs' partial acquittal and others expressing disappointment.

As Combs awaits sentencing, he remains in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Recent testimonies revealed similar behavior by Combs that posed a threat to witnesses and the broader community. The sentencing hearing on October 3 will determine the length of his prison sentence.

Celebrities such as Sean "Diddy" Combs, under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in crime-and-justice matters, are also facing criticisms in the general-news arena, with the R&B singer Cassie Ventura accusing him of rape and sex trafficking. Moreover, entertainers like Combs, convicted of transporting women across state lines for prostitution, continue to make headlines in the entertainment industry, potentially marking a shift in the public's perception of celebrity justice.
