Inauguration Day Events
In a series of events across Russia, several governors began their new terms, while others extended their tenure, marking a significant shift in regional leadership.
Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan, commenced his fourth consecutive term as governor. During his inauguration, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and Presidential Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov were present, expressing their support for Minnikhanov's systemic aid to participants in the special military operation and their families. Khusnullin also praised Minnikhanov's efforts in strengthening relations with Islamic countries, making Tatarstan an attractive destination for investors. Timur Nagumanov, Minnikhanov's assistant and former Almetyevsk mayor, replaced Alexander Terentyev as Tatarstan's representative in the Federation Council.
In the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobshev took his second gubernatorial oath. The inauguration was repeatedly postponed due to weather conditions and the absence of Anatoly Seryshev, the presidential plenipotentiary in the Siberian Federal District. Vladimir Shprah, the chairman of the regional public chamber in Irkutsk, commissioned a painting titled "Public Figures with Kobshev" to mark the occasion.
Yuri Slyusar, governor of Rostov, was elected for the first time. Slyusar emphasized the region's proximity to the SVO zone, stating that ensuring the safety of citizens and protecting vital facilities would be his top priority.
Vladimir Solodov, the governor of Kamchatka, was sworn in for his second term. Following his inauguration, Solodov dissolved the cabinet and plans to form a new one within a month.
Elsewhere, Yevgeny Viltzan, an SVO participant and "Time Heroes" graduate, is a candidate for Bogomaz's representative in the Federation Council. Yevgeny Solntsev, governor of Orenburg Oblast, extended the term of senator Elena Afanasyeva.
In addition, Denis Pasler, governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast, extended the term of senator Viktor Sheptiy. Anatoly Artamonov and Andrei Yatskin are expected to remain in their positions as senators for the governors of Rostov and Kaluga, respectively, although they have not been officially confirmed.
Vladimir Shapsha, governor of Kaluga, started his second term and was praised by Igor Shegolev for the region's success in restarting automobile manufacturing enterprises and improving agricultural indicators.
In the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz started his third term, but he has not yet appointed his representative in the Federation Council. Irina Yarygina, a Vice-Speaker of the State Duma, and senators Boris Nevzorov and Valery Ponomarev attended Solodov's inauguration. Dmitry Makhonin, governor of Perm Krai, replaced Andrei Klimov with Vyacheslav Grigoryev as the region's senator.
The new representatives of Perm Krai, Sverdlovsk Oblast, and Orenburg Oblast who took office this weekend are Vladimir Plantakov for Perm Krai, Olga Kiryakova for Sverdlovsk Oblast, and Vyacheslav Demin for Orenburg Oblast. Their inauguration was attended by President Vladimir Putin and other regional officials.
Solodov outlined five principles for his second term: improving life quality, creating a stable economy, developing infrastructure, preserving nature, and expanding government openness.
During Solodov's inauguration ceremony, three earthquakes of magnitude 4.2 to 5.3 occurred, adding a unique twist to the event. Boris Nevzorov will remain in his post in Solodov's new government.
These changes in regional leadership reflect the ongoing dynamism within Russia's political landscape.
