Inadequate bowling performance and fluctuating pitches cited as the reasons for SRH's slump by Unadkat.
Hear this in a swift, casual glance ## Unadkat Rants on SRH's Bowling Woes, Blame Game for IPL 2025 Failure
Ahmedabad - With the prospect of early elimination looming, SRH's resilient bowler Jaydev Unadkat has laid bare their struggling IPL 2025 campaign, pinning the blame on the team’s uncohesive bowling efforts and constantly shifting pitch conditions.
SRH find themselves fighting to stay alive after suffering a crushing 38-run defeat against the Gujarat Titans on their home turf on Friday.
"Let's face it - a winning side requires at least three or four swingsmen in their bowling department contributing every game. This year, I'm afraid we're falling short on that front," an exasperated Unadkat told reporters.
Choosing to bowl first, SRH failed to contain GT's top order, who amassed an intimidating 224 for 6. Despite managing to pick up three wickets in the final over, Unadkat acknowledge it wasn't enough.
"You see, just as partnerships make a difference in batting, they hold the same for bowling. Things get messy when all three ends aren't on point, creating unnecessary pressure on the remaining guys. As a result, plans change and we can't seem to be the dominant bowling force in the tournament," he admitted.
According to Unadkat, the team hasn't been bringing their best on the field, with execution becoming their Achilles heel. Suffice to say, it's been a disappointing season for the champions thus far with only three wins and seven losses in ten matches.
"Last year, we set the standard with a big batting approach, which took us all the way to the final. But that's not always sustainable, especially since opponents are getting wiser and employing better tactics, whereas bowlers are coming up with new strategies," Unadkat reflected.
"Furthermore, pitch conditions are playing a larger role this year. In 2024, we had numerous flat tracks, but this season we've faced more challenging ones, giving rise to a lack of momentum," he conceded.
The defeat against GT was a result of lackluster bowling and lackadaisical fielding, Unadkat contended, with sloppy groundwork giving away those extra 20-25 crucial runs. On top of everything, the team failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities while batting.
"They did their homework well, sticking to their plans better than us. At the end of the day, we couldn't match their precision," Unadkat bemoaned.
