Eye Troubles: Elton John's Struggle to Scribble His Signature

Elton John, the 77-year-old icon, is battling some rough waters. His eyesight has taken a toll, causing him to scale down his signature to a simple "E" and a smooch. It's tough for him to jot down his full name due to his waning vision. With his upcoming album "Who Believes In Angels?" on the horizon, fans brace for his new, simplified autograph.

Elton John has spoken candidly about his fading vision in recent times, expressing worries that it might jeopardize his latest project. Despite these concerns, he's ready to drop his latest masterpiece on April 4, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile (43).

Blinded by Infection

Elton John's right eye went completely dark last July, thanks to an infection he picked up while vacationing in the South of France. His left eye isn't in the clear either. In December, he announced his absence at the previews of his musical adaptation of "The Devil Wears Prada" due to his vision problems.

On "Good Morning America," the veteran singer painted a picture of the adversities he's facing. "It's knocked me for a loop, I can't see. I can't read, I can't see anything."

Unstoppable Spirit

Despite the setbacks, Elton John maintained a positive outlook in an interview with "The Guardian" in 2025. "I'm an eternal optimist, and at the moment, I have poor eyesight. There were days when I felt out of sorts, but when I think about how lucky I am, it puts things in perspective. I have respect for those visually impaired. I have a great life, and I hope my eyesight improves." He's pulled through tough health issues and addictions before, so he's geared up and ready to "dust himself off."
