Flooding and Tornadoes Strike Krasnodar Region, Causing Damage and Evacuations

Heavy rains in early August 2025 have caused severe flooding and mudslides in Krasnodar Krai, particularly in the Tuapse district and surrounding villages such as Defanovka, Moldavanskoye (also Moldavanovka), Lermontovo, and Novomikhaylovskiy.

On August 3, the A-147 highway from Djubga to Sochi in the Tuapse district experienced flooding, and a bridge was destroyed in the village of Lermontovo. Video footage shows the destruction of the bridge by water flows, which connected the Lazurnaya Polyana microdistrict with the village. This incident may have impacted transportation in the area.

The destruction of the bridge is an additional consequence of the heavy rains in the Krasnodar region. Water levels in rivers such as the Shapsukho and Deffan also rose due to the overnight rainfall. In the resort village of Agoy in the Tuapse district, a waterspout came ashore and damaged beach infrastructure. Gusts of wind even lifted a catamaran into the air in Agoy, which then fell near tourists.

A state of emergency has been declared, with dozens of homes flooded, and local traffic disrupted by mudslides and floodwaters. Recovery efforts include evacuation of residents and tourists, with temporary accommodation centers being established, such as a school in Novomikhailovsky village. Over 150 emergency personnel and 44 units of specialized equipment are deployed to assist, distribute water, and clear debris.

Authorities continue to issue storm and flood warnings given ongoing risks of rising river levels and further rains. Residents are advised to exercise caution near rivers, sea coasts, and mountain slopes while following official guidance. Drivers are also urged to refrain from traveling on the A-147 federal highway in the near future due to flooding.

The situation remains dynamic with ongoing relief operations and monitoring by regional emergency services. As of now, 57 people and 15 units of equipment are involved in the works to eliminate the aftermath of adverse weather conditions in the region.

  1. General-news reports indicate an increase in incidents, including accidents on the A-147 highway and fires sparked by lightning due to the adverse weather conditions in Krasnodar region.
  2. As the region grapples with flooding, fires, and weather-related accidents, authorities have warned of potential risks associated with higher river levels, sea coasts, and mountain slopes, urging residents to stay cautious and follow official guidelines.
