In the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Kenya Prisons Service's Loice Chemnung claimed her first national 10,000m title amidst intense competition and persistent rainfall. Demonstrating sheer determination, the 27-year-old pulled away from the pack early on, winning in a commanding 31:39.09.

This victory marks a pivotal moment in Chemnung's career, renewing her aspirations to represent Kenya on the global stage. "This is a significant achievement for me," expressed Chemnung. "The rain was challenging, but I knew I had to maintain control of the pace to stay competitive."

Last year, Chemnung missed her chance to be on the Olympic team. Now, she sets her sights on the World Championship trials scheduled for August 1-2. Hoping to make her debut at the global level in Tokyo, Chemnung is optimistic about her chances.

Over the past season, Chemnung's performances have been outstanding, winning the Malaga Half Marathon in an impressive course record of 1:05:46 and clocking a 31:26 victory at the Bangsaen 10K. Today, she competes in the 5,000m final, filled with cautious optimism.

In the men's competition, Gilbert Kiprotich clinched his first national 5,000m title, finishing in 13:37.06. Kiprotich credits his victory at the Malaga Half Marathon earlier this year, where he ran a swift 58:27, for boosting his confidence. His primary focus now is qualifying for the World Championship.

Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, eased through his 100m semi-final in 10.09 seconds, setting his sights on the final, aiming to dip under 10 seconds.
