The film is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2027, bringing an exciting holiday treat to fans - following the tradition established by its cinematic predecessors.

The Return of a Legendary Performer

None other than Andy Serkis (61) will reprise his iconic role as Gollum, also taking the director's chair. Known for his remarkable motion-capture performances since "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" in 2002, Serkis' directorial credits include "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage." Originally, the film was planned for a 2026 release, but the initial filming announcement in the summer of 2024 has been pushed back by a year.

Details about the film's intriguing plot have been shared with "Empire" magazine.
