Rematch in the 2. Handball-Bundesliga: Calendar Still up in the Air Post DHB Ruling
Following the Decision by DHB: The Date for the Rescheduled Game Remains Undecided - In the wake of DHB's judicial decision:
Getting a concrete date for the rematch in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga, potentially shaping the relegation scenario, remains a hassle. The Handball Bundesliga (HBL) presidency is in continual conversation with the German Handball Federation (DHB) and all involved parties. According to dpa reports, the game between TuSEM Essen and Dessau-Roßlauer HV 06 will unquestionably occur prior to the league's conclusion on June 30th. The HBL presidency settled on this arrangement at a meeting held on Wednesday.
The Necessity of Replay
Following a June 12th decision by the DHB's Federal Court, the match must be replayed due to a crucial rule infringement involving the timekeeper and secretary. Dessau emerged victorious in the original match against Essen on April 27th, securing a 28:27 victory. The stakes are high: if Dessau loses the replay, they will be relegated instead of ASV Hamm-Westfalen, while Essen escapes such consequences.
What Went Down? In the closing moments before the end of the game, seven Dessau players were on the field, despite the team being supposed to field one player less due to a time penalty. Neither the referees nor the officials noticed this oversight, prompting Essen to lodge a protest against the game's result.
Holiday Woes: Vacations Abroad
The issue at hand is that many players and coaches are on vacation. "As per HBL's perspective, both clubs would essentially have to rescind the statutory holiday entitlement that their staff has been granted for the duration spanning from the final game of the season to June 30th, and immediately instruct the players to return from their vacations," said Dessau's managing director, Sebastian Glock, in a statement. Some of these vacations are in Argentina and Indonesia.
Total Commitment from HBL CEO Bohmann
HBL CEO Frank Bohmann stands firm in his belief that a rematch is necessary, stating, "Those rules that we, along with all other clubs, commit to are unwavering." He emphasized that an expansion to 19 teams won't be an issue.
The reason for rough waters lies in the reservations concerning the players' vacation plans. "Those who opt to go on vacation, I must say, should be willing to face the consequences," Bohmann told streaming portal Dyn, underlining, "It will definitely take place before June 30th."
Dessau: Blame Lies with the Officials
The Dessau team holds the referees responsible for the rule infraction and maintains, "In no reasonable scenario could it have occurred in the final three seconds of the game that there would be more than a tie, and the Dessau-Roßlauer HV 06 would be relegated."
In essence, the upcoming showdown between TuSEM Essen and Dessau-Roßlauer HV 06 aims to maintain competitiveness and fairness in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga.
