In the Ural Derby, "Traktor" triumphs over "Automobile"
In a closely contested battle between two Eastern Conference rivals, Traktor emerged victorious over Avtomobilist in a 0:2 defeat. The match, played recently, saw Traktor's Egor Korchkov score an empty-net goal in the final minute to secure the win.
The defeat leaves Avtomobilist two points behind the current league leader, Avangard Omsk, which has accumulated eight points after five games. Traktor, on the other hand, now sits in fifth place with six points.
The first period of the game was evenly matched, with Chelyabinsk having a slight edge in shots on goal (20 shots for Traktor compared to 16 for Avtomobilist). However, it was Traktor who took the lead in the second period, thanks to Andrei Nikono's goal, capitalizing on a mistake by the home team while they were shorthanded.
Nikolai Zavarukhin, the head coach of Avtomobilist, expressed his dissatisfaction with his team's performance, particularly in the first period, where he felt they were timid. He also praised Traktor's player Driger for outplaying Avtomobilist's forwards and taking the right position during the match.
Zavarukhin also mentioned that there was a bit of luck involved in the match and suggested that Avtomobilist should have played more confidently in the second and third periods. He also highlighted the exceptional performance of Traktor's goaltender, which he felt made it difficult for Avtomobilist to score.
In a surprising turn of events, Yevgeny Alkhin replaced Vladimir Galkin in the goaltending line for Avtomobilist in the match against Traktor. Despite this change, Avtomobilist was unable to turn the tide of the game.
Nikita Tryamkin, the captain of Avtomobilist, was not in the lineup for the match against Traktor. Rid Boucher had two chances to score on a breakaway for Avtomobilist, but failed to convert.
Despite the loss, Zavarukhin maintained that the game was enjoyable for the fans, emphasizing the competitive nature of the match. He also reiterated that Avtomobilist is entering the new season with the goal of winning the Gagarin Cup, and they will continue to strive for improvement in their upcoming games.
As the 2022 season progresses, the Eastern Conference standings are heating up, with tight races expected in the coming weeks. Avtomobilist will look to bounce back from this loss and continue their pursuit of the Gagarin Cup.
