Rignieu-le-Désert's Bal de mai Breaks Attendance Records
The small hamlet of Rignieu-le-Désert in Chazey-sur-Ain, Ain, was abuzz with excitement last month as the annual Bal de mai took place. The event, which has been a tradition in the region for many years, was advertised on Instagram for a month, generating a significant amount of anticipation.
This year's Bal de mai was no exception. The departmental road 77C was closed to make way for the open-air discotheque setup on the stadium. As the sun set, the crowd, dressed in fashionable attire, began to gather. Boys attended the event in sweaters, shirts, Nike model TN Requin, and fresh shaves, while girls donned crop tops, false eyelashes, gloss, and false nails.
As the music of French rapper Gims filled the air, the crowd used their iPhones to light up the night, creating a spectacle that was both visually stunning and energetic. The event featured three DJs, a real stage, shooter boards, five bouncers at the entrance, a photographer, and a QR code to retrieve photos.
Kevin Viollet, the club president, expressed his surprise at the large turnout, stating that it had more than doubled from the previous year, reaching approximately 1,200 attendees. Remarkably, there were no fights reported at the event.
The young organizers of the Bal de mai served sixteen pints of blonde beer and five pints of cherry beer, while an impressive thirty-five bottles of vodka were consumed. The event was a significant success, leaving a memorable impression on the residents of Rignolans.
Local agricultural worker and club treasurer, Andrea Mabilon, and her boyfriend, Quentin Marthoud, another "agri", were also in attendance, adding to the community spirit of the evening.
