Fomarco Time Trial Returns as Ferragosto Tradition

The picturesque town of Pieve Vergonte, nestled in the heart of Trentino, will once again play host to the Ferragosto tradition of the Fomarco time trial. This year marks the 20th edition of the Trofeo Comune di Pieve Vergonte, with over two hundred young cyclists from across northern Italy set to compete.

The Espoirs category race will follow the same course as the girls' race, with the final, grueling climb to Fomarco making the selection. Among the home team's representatives in the Espoirs category is Lorenzo Soldarini, a newcomer to the category. Notable participants from the junior and Espoir category races will include Marta Longo Borghini, a home rider and a young talent, and Simone Brustia (Madonna di Campagna), who is among the favorites for the juniors' race.

In the Espoirs category, Aurora Cerame (Cesano Maderno) will represent the girls, while Giorgia Nervo (Team Tentino) will carry the torch for the junior category girls. Both Piffer and Privitera had previously tasted victory on Fomarco's roads, and their achievements will undoubtedly serve as inspiration for this year's competitors.

The juniors' race, consisting of 76.6 km, will start at 9:30, while the Espoirs category race will commence at 15:00. The junior and Espoir category girls will complete a 4.7 km circuit in Pieve Vergonte seven times before the final climb to Fomarco. The races will feature separate classifications for the two categories, ensuring a fair and competitive event for all participants.

In the afternoon, the junior and Espoir category girls will start at 13:00 for the ninth Logistica Donini Trophy. This race is dedicated to Sara Piffer, a 19-year-old from Palù di Giovo, Trentino, and Samuele Privitera, a 19-year-old from Liguria. Tributes to these two young cyclists, who have left a lasting impact on the sport, will likely be ceremonial or symbolic gestures recognizing their contributions or memories.

Bustese Olonia will lead the Lombard teams in the competition, while the home team will field six riders in the Espoirs category race. For those interested in learning more about the specifics of the Fomarco time trial tradition or the tributes to Sara Piffer and Samuele Privitera, it would be best to consult regional cycling clubs, official race organizers, or local news sources related to the area hosting the event.

The Fomarco time trial tradition, rekindled in Pieve Vergonte, also includes a competition related to sports.

Young cyclists from across northern Italy are preparing to battle it out on the sports field in the Espoirs category race.
