In the Spanish Grand Prix, Piastri emerges victorious over Norris, while Verstappen faces penalties after colliding with Russell.

In the nail-biting 2025 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, it was Oscar Piastri snagging the coveted win for McLaren, with teammate Lando Norris hot on his heels in a thrilling 1-2 finish. Yet, the race wasn't without drama, as Max Verstappen, Red Bull's defending champion, found himself embroiled in an explosive finish.

The lights went green, and Piastri charging from pole position, quickly took charge. Lando Norris, on the other hand, had a slower start, allowing Verstappen to steal second place. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, powered past George Russell's Mercedes to take fourth and fifth positions.

Leclerc soon began to pressure Hamilton, who was struggling for grip. The seven-time champion defended well but eventually gave way to the Monaco native, who looked more confident on his tires. Norris, meanwhile, capitalized on the opportunity to pass Verstappen, moving into second place.

Verstappen pitted for the first of three planned stops on lap 14. After a spirited battle and a pit-stop, Verstappen was back in third, just 14.5 seconds behind Norris. The tables turned when Norris made his first pit-stop on lap 22, releasing Verstappen to take the lead for the first time.

With fresh tyres on board, the McLarens began to close the gap on Verstappen. The Dutchman pitted on lap 30, taking on Medium tyres. But a Safety Car was deployed on lap 54 following an engine failure for Kimi Antonelli, muddying the waters for the final sprint to the flag. Verstappen, having no strong option for new tires, had to put on Hard tires, leaving him vulnerable at the restart.

When Piastri and Norris roared away, Verstappen struggled to control his car, Losing grip like never before. The Force was with Leclerc, who attacked Verstappen, making slightly contact as they went past. Russell saw an opportunity, attacking Verstappen at the end of the pit straight. But the Dutchman appeared to outbrake himself, causing the rivals to bang wheels. Verstappen was forced to use the escape road, rejoining the race ahead of Russell. He was soon told to give the place back to Russell, but more contact ensued, earning Verstappen a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.

In the end, Russell ended the race in fourth, while Nico Hülkenberg, in a surprise turn of events, passed Hamilton after the Safety Car to take fifth place. Hamilton finished sixth, with Hadjar, Gasly, Alonso, and a struggling Verstappen rounding out the top ten.
