German Tennis Star Ella Seidel Shines at Cincinnati Masters, Advances in US Open Qualifiers

In the sweltering heat of Cincinnati, the tennis courts echoed with the determination of some of the world's top players. Among them was Ella Seidel, a 20-year-old tennis player from Hamburg, who made a significant impact at the Cincinnati Masters tournament.

Seidel, currently ranked No. 124 in the world, faced Varvara Gracheva from France in the round of 16. Despite a strong start, winning the first set 6-2, Seidel took a medical timeout during the second set due to the unusually high temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. After the break, Seidel struggled, losing the second set 1:6. In the third set, Seidel couldn't find her rhythm and had to retire after nearly two hours of play.

The heat was not the only challenge Seidel faced. During the tournament, her blood pressure and oxygen saturation were measured on court, and ice packs were used to cool her legs during the medical timeout.

While Seidel's run ended in the round of 16, her performance at the Cincinnati Masters marked a significant milestone in her career. Reaching the round of 16 at a Masters tournament is the biggest achievement of Seidel's career so far.

Alexander Zverev, a 28-year-old from Hamburg, also participated in the Cincinnati Masters. Zverev is still in the running for the singles title, but he and his doubles partner, Marcelo Melo from Brazil, were defeated in the doubles event by the top-seeded duo Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador)/Mate Pavic (Croatia).

The Cincinnati Masters tournament, with a total prize money of approximately 5.2 million USD (around 4.5 million EUR), is a key warm-up event for many professionals before the final Grand Slam of the season in New York.

Post-Cincinnati, Seidel's tennis career continued with strong performances. She advanced through the US Open qualifying rounds with a first-round win and was set to face Sachia Vickery next in qualifying. Vickery, a former world No. 73, will present a formidable challenge for Seidel, but she has shown resilience and determination, saving two match points in Cincinnati to reach the round of 16.

Seidel's career record stands at approximately 140-93, with a 60% win rate. Her best WTA 1000 result remains the Cincinnati 2025 round of 16. With her strong serving and baseline games, Seidel is poised to continue her upward progression in the world of professional tennis.

In the quarterfinals of the singles event at the Cincinnati Masters, Zverev will face either American Ben Shelton or Czech Jiri Lehecka. As the tournament moves forward, both Zverev and Seidel will look to build on their performances and continue their pursuit of tennis glory.
