The Trinidad Knight Riders (TKR) are gearing up for their upcoming campaign in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, with a new captain at the helm. Nicholas Pooran has been appointed as the leader of the franchise, succeeding Kieron Pollard who led the team from 2019 to 2024.
Pooran, a renowned figure in the world of T20 cricket, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and emphasised the privilege of leading the TKR. He highlighted the advantage of having experienced players like Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell on the team to support him.
The new captain has a long-standing association with the TKR, dating back to the CPL’s inaugural season in 2013. He has represented various teams in the CPL before returning to the Knight Riders in 2022. Pooran is known for his prolific performance in the CPL, with over 2,400 runs at a strike rate of 152.27 in 114 matches.
Kieron Pollard, who is no longer the captain of TKR, expressed his thoughts on stepping down, stating it was a special experience leading the team for six years. Under his leadership, TKR has won the CPL title an impressive four times.
Pollard, however, emphasised the importance of grooming the next generation and mentioned Dwayne Bravo as the new head coach of TKR. Bravo, who was previously the captain, has handed over the reins to Pooran.
Pooran, who is also a member of the Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), shared his career journey, starting with playing for Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel (the former name of TKR), being captained by Dwayne Bravo. He was subsequently picked by Pollard in a Barbados franchise after recovering from a career-threatening accident.
With all three of them (Pooran, Pollard, and Bravo) now on the TKR team, Pooran expressed hope for winning a title this year. He highlighted the experience he can rely on with Sunil Narine and Andre Russell still playing for TKR.
The TKR, a team participating in the CPL, will start their campaign against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 17. With the new captain at the helm, fans are eager to see how the team will perform in this year's competition.
