Update on the April 2025 Snowstorm in Sverdlovsk Region

Brace yourself, what's coming next won't be a walk in the park!

The fierce snowstorm that's been laying waste to the Sverdlovsk region since April 28 shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. Cities like Biserть, Shamara, Nizhny Tagil, and Visim have seen up to 27-29 mm of precipitation, double their monthly norms, while Kushva saw a whopping 40 mm. The most affected cities, Krasnoturinsk, Verhotur'e, and Kachkanar, have reported a staggering 52-53 mm of snowfall. That's more than their entire monthly average!

But wait, there's more! Strong winds have made yet another unwelcome addition to these dangerous conditions. The roads are treacherous, with icy patches and blizzards to contend with. As a result, the State Traffic Inspectorate has temporarily banned passenger bus traffic from northern cities.

As of early April 29, the southeast part of the Sverdlovsk region remained snow-free. The rest of the region, however, has anywhere from 1-12 cm of snow, with the north experiencing an impressive 12-25 cm. The town of Serov, surprisingly, boasts 30 cm snowdrifts after just one day.

Even our beloved Ekb has been drenched, receiving approximately half of its monthly precipitation overnight. By morning, the city had a 3 cm snow cover, with snowfall continuing as we speak.

By the evening of April 29, the snowstorm should clear the Sverdovsk region, only to be replaced by another one the following day. However, this time around, the precipitation will be in the form of rain and wet snow in the north. So, it seems like we've traded one Beast from the East for another.

Remember, discretion is the better part of valor. Stay tuned for updates, and find out the latest on the road conditions and traffic bans by checking local news sources or official announcements. Keep yourselves and your loved ones safe out there, folks!
