In the run-up to the election, Carney intensifies his campaign strategy in the Greater Toronto Region.

Potential Outcome of Elections Hinges on 55 Districts in Upcoming Vote

In the run-up to the election, Carney intensifies his campaign strategy in the Greater Toronto Region.

Crankin' Up the Heat: Carney's Last-Minute Push in Toronto

Mark Carney, the charismatic Liberal leader, amped up his campaign in the final stretch, channeling his inner hockey coach in a pep rally at Pearson Airport, Toronto. With barely two days left until the big day, Monday, Carney urged his passionate supporters to give it their all, reaching out to a few more voters and keeping up the momentum.

Toronto's suburbs are the battleground this election, a vital region that can swing the vote in Carney's favor. The GTA boasts 55 ridings, almost as many as BC and Manitoba combined, and its 4.5 million voters hold the power to tilt the election's outcome.

In the limelight once again was the looming trade war with President Trump and the impact it could have on Canadians. Waving "Elbows Up" signs, Carney's die-hard supporters cheered him on. Yet, the Liberal leader made it clear that voter turnout was crucial, saying, "I need you, my troops, to make a difference in these last few days. I need you to vote!"

Post-speech, Carney shook hands, a classic habit that can eat up precious pre- and post-event time. His stalwart ally, Marco Mendicino, was seen braving the frigid winds while waiting for Carney to board the campaign plane.

Carney's day wasn't just about rallying the troops; he popped in at King City, Aurora, Newmarket, and Markham, areas where close races with the Conservatives are expected. Arguably, the Conservatives are eyeing these regions as well. They were the deciding factor in securing a majority in 2008 for Stephen Harper. Since 2015, however, the Liberals have dominated the region, but Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is now targeting these suburban voters.

The Tory contender is also shaping his platform to appeal to Toronto suburban voters. In 2015, the region fell to the Liberals, but last summer saw a surprising defeat of the Liberal stronghold Toronto-St. Paul's, owing to growing dissatisfaction with former PM Justin Trudeau.

As the campaign winds down, the Liberals made their first stop of the day in the tight race Conservatives controls, King-Vaughan. Carney repeated his mantra: "I’m asking for your vote, regardless of your past choices. I'm asking for your vote to stand up to Donald Trump."

Meanwhile, pollsterspredict a Liberal victory for Mark Carney. Léger-Le Journal's latest poll projected the Liberals leading nationally with 43%, compared to the Conservatives at 39%.
