Stopping at the pinnacle of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) takes grit and determination. Within the hallowed halls of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a select few compete. The road is tougher for European fighters, though, according to an industry insider - this time not for lack of try but thanks to their American peers.

As things stand, there are only a handful of German fighters who've managed to reach the UFC's upper echelons. In an interview with ntv.de, renowned UFC and ESPN analyst Din Thomas brought attention to outstanding German talent, detailing accountability among athletes and organizers.

Despite stellar potential, Europe's MMA scene lags behind. In America's eye, "second-rate" is the startling verdict. Why is that, inquires the 48-year-old UFC alum, who's seen attended by German hospitality since first visiting Frankfurt in 2014. "Americans can be very arrogant in this regard," he admits. Thomas passionately champions German MMA, citing Sold-out arenas, a booming TV product, and top-notch athletes as proof of Germany's progress. However, why such a promising product has failed to attract U.S. attention remains in question.

Most agree Oktagon - the German MMA promotion - requires tenacity to carve out a place in the sun. "Persistence," notes Thomas, "is key to earning respect. Only by building trust over time will ultimate success follow."

To compete on the same level as American organizations, aspiring European fighters must take a chance. According to Thomas, few U.S. organizations fly European fighters over to test their mettle. But many prospects join American training camps, trading a chance at greater exposure for more financial security. Others try their luck in Cage Warriors or Brave FC, smaller organizations with a presence in the U.S.

While the U.S. market impatiently waits for the officially stamp of approval, Oktagon remains unnoticed. The litmus test lies in convincing American audiences that the German athletes can deliver: "If athletes can show they're competitive in the elite lagues", Thomas asserts, "Oktagon will be seen as a major MMA organization." And if that happens, watch out world.
