In the preseason kickoff, quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Huntley of the Cleveland Browns are set to make their appearances on the field.
The Cleveland Browns are set to kick off their preseason against the Carolina Panthers, with a limited quarterback roster. Only five quarterbacks are in camp for the preseason, and only two – rookie Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Huntley – are expected to play against the Panthers.
Joe Flacco, the veteran quarterback on the Browns' roster, is 40 years old and has taken most of the first-team reps in training camp. However, he is not expected to play in the preseason opener.
Dillon Gabriel, a rookie quarterback from Oregon, and Shedeur Sanders, a rookie from Colorado, have seen varying levels of playing time but have dealt with some injuries. Kenny Pickett, another rookie quarterback, is nursing a hamstring injury and is not expected to play.
Shedeur Sanders, who was selected in the fifth round by the Browns, played for his father, Deion Sanders, in college. Last season, Huntley, 27, started five games with the Miami Dolphins, completing 86 of 133 pass attempts for 829 yards. Huntley had a 2-3 record last season and threw three touchdowns and three interceptions. Sanders played for the Dolphins when Huntley was injured and threw two touchdown passes in his appearance against the Panthers [1][2][4].
Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will start the game on Wednesday. With Flacco and Pickett unlikely to take the field, the preseason opener will provide a valuable opportunity for Sanders and Huntley to showcase their skills.
