Hyderabad Pharmaceutical Boss Detained in Connection with Delhi Liquor Policy Investigation

In the ongoing Delhi Liquor Policy case, the head of a Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company has been taken into custody.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been leading an investigation into alleged abnormalities in the Delhi import tax plan, with a focus on claims that Aurobindo Pharma and Indospirit may have received undue tax benefits or exemptions.

In a significant development, Sarath Reddy, Director of Aurobindo Pharma, was jailed by the ED in connection with its cash washing probe into these alleged abnormalities. Reddy is the second person to be arrested by the agency in the Delhi liquor plan case, following the detention of Sameer Mahandru, the managing director of Indospirit, in September.

The ED has conducted multiple raids in this case and has also examined Reddy twice. Both Reddy and Mahandru have reportedly cooperated with the investigations and have denied any wrongdoing.

The CBI is also involved in the investigation, looking into the alleged abnormalities in the Delhi import tax plan. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor had suggested a CBI probe into the supposed abnormalities in the application of Delhi's Import Tax Policy 2021-22.

The investigation is centered around whether the companies adopted irregular practices to obtain import tax concessions inappropriately, potentially bypassing the intended eligibility criteria of the policy.

The Delhi authorities have indicated they will take strict action if any malpractice is established but are also committed to ensuring the policy's transparent and fair application.

As of the latest available information, investigations into this case remain ongoing. For the most precise and updated details, monitoring official releases from the Delhi Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate, or related judicial proceedings is recommended, as developments may emerge following ongoing inquiries.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, has affirmed that the center, with the Lieutenant Governor acting as a proxy, wants to harm the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) campaign in Gujarat. The Delhi excise scheme came under the scanner after the Delhi Lieutenant Governor suggested a CBI probe into the supposed abnormalities in the application of Delhi's Import tax Policy 2021-22. It is important to note that Gujarat is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
