Hey there, good peeps!

Today, I'm your new guide, Mirjam Bittner, hailing from the vibrant city of Seoul. This bustling metropolis, with a population of around 10 million, is one of the largest urban areas in the world. As Asia's major cities, it serves as a beacon for investors, who track the stock markets closely each morning.

Lately, the financial markets are experiencing turbulence due to President Donald Trump's recent tariff package. Although the US President chose to golf over the weekend, the ongoing US-China trade war seems to be causing havoc in the stock markets. The Nikkei Index plummeted by more than 8 percent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while stock markets in China, Hong Kong, and Australia also observed significant losses during early trading.

Regardless, global economies are resilient, and it remains uncertain how they will fare in the long run. Alienating trading partners may not benefit the United States in the long term, and occasionally, difficult decisions must be made for the greater good: like taking medicine to cure an illness.

Speaking of hidden revelations, the world recently discovered a secret chat group associated with the US President’s National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz. Initially, the group’s contents remained concealed until The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was granted access after accepting a connection request from Waltz himself. It's unclear how the connection request was extended, but rumor has it that a series of miscommunications within Trump's team may have led to this situation.

In other news, measles continue to spread in the US, with increasing cases reported in Texas leading to a heartbreaking tragedy. Another child has fallen victim to this preventable disease, as they were not vaccinated and lacked any known underlying health issues. US Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy is now urging for increased vaccination efforts.

Stay tuned for updates on the ongoing negotiations between the Union and SPD, WHO's latest maternal mortality report, US President Donald Trump's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the impending speed camera marathon throughout 13 states!

As always, here's to a Thought-Provoking Tuesday from Seoul.

What Happened with the Secret Signal Group? In what’s been dubbed as astounding error by the press, The Guardian believes Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of "The Atlantic," unintentionally joined a war chat group after a series of misunderstandings. The whole debacle might have started when Goldberg asked for a statement from the Trump campaign during the election campaign in October. The email sent by Goldberg was then forwarded to Trump spokesman Brian Hughes, who mistakenly sent Hughes' phone number to Waltz, who saved the number as Brian Hughes on his phone. When Waltz added "Brian Hughes" to a group chat discussing U.S. military operations in Houthi militia in Yemen instead of the intended recipient, Goldberg ended up receiving an invitation.[enrichment1][enrichment3]

Measles Outbreak Claims Another Life in TexasUnfortunately, the measles outbreak in the US continues to escalate, with a second child's death reported recently in Texas. The child, who was not vaccinated and had no underlying health conditions, has added to the growing concerns over the preventable disease. Anti-vaccination sentiments, including those expressed by US Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy, remain a leading hindrance in addressing the outbreak.[enrichment2]

  1. Donald Trump's latest tariff package is causing a probable tailspin in global stock markets, with the Nikkei index welcoming an 8 percent plummet on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
  2. Ironically, Michael Waltz's secret chat group, associated with the US President's National Security Advisor, was inadvertently joined by Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of "The Atlantic," after a series of miscommunications within Trump's team.
  3. Despite the US' ongoing trade war tariffs, global economies might possibly display resilience and manage to overcome the current stock market turbulence in the long run.
