In the game against the Bills, despite suffering another loss, the Dolphins displayed a tenacious spirit, potentially preventing a deeper downturn.
The Miami Dolphins suffered their third consecutive loss of the season, falling to the Buffalo Bills with a score of 31-21 in a game played on Thursday. The Dolphins, who are currently winless and have started the season with a record of 0-3, showed more fight and energy in their latest outing than they had in the first two games.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 22 of 34 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. However, mental lapses continued to be an issue for the Dolphins, with two potential first downs nullified by penalties. Tua Tagovailoa has five turnovers in the first three games and has come up short in two straight outings.
Defensive tackle Zach Sieler was penalized for roughing punter Cameron Johnston, extending Buffalo's drive and leading to a game-winning touchdown. Sieler, a team captain, took blame for his 'stupid error' after the game. A similar mistake was made earlier in the game by linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who took an unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting Allen after securing a sack.
On the offensive side, the Dolphins' offense rushed for 130 yards, converted 10 of 15 third-down attempts, and scored on all three trips to the red zone. Rookie running back Ollie Gordon II, known for his powerful running style suited for short-yardage and goal-line situations, had a strong game. He had nine carries for 38 yards and a touchdown, serving as the Dolphins' second-leading rusher. De'Von Achane, the Dolphins' speedy RB1, also had a solid outing, combining for more than 15 carries and 76 yards.
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill scored his first touchdown of the season and backflipped in the end zone, while Jaylen Waddle also found the end zone and celebrated with his signature penguin waddle. Darren Waller is expected to make his season debut in Week 4.
Coach Mike McDaniel stated that he would use Sieler's mistake as a teachable moment, and it seems that the team is gathering more information on the extent of Jason Marshall Jr.'s hamstring injury. The Dolphins have 11 days to prepare for their second straight prime time game against the New York Jets on Sept. 29.
Bradley Chubb, who has recorded a sack in each of the first three games of the season, made history as the first Dolphin to achieve this since Trace Armstrong in 2000. Despite the loss, the Dolphins' performance against the Bills suggests that they are making progress and may be on the verge of their first win of the season.
