Central Europe Braces for Second Heatwave, Temperatures to Exceed 40°C

Central Europe is set to experience a second heatwave in mid-July 2025, with temperatures expected to reach or exceed 40°C, according to current forecasts. This intense heatwave will affect countries including Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and parts of the Balkans.

The heatwave is characterized by a persistent high-pressure system over Europe, which promotes sustained solar heating and minimal cloud cover. This system, currently named Ines, will soon be replaced by the high-pressure system named Julia, which is bringing Saharan dust and hot air from the desert to our region.

The second heatwave is expected to peak on Tuesday, with temperatures rising to 35 degrees in many areas, potentially up to 38 degrees in some parts of the country. The heatwave is predicted to last until the end of next week, after which cooler weather and more rainfall are expected.

July 2025 has already seen unbearably hot temperatures in many parts of Europe, reaching up to 36 degrees in our country. The broader summer of 2025, including July, has been among the hottest on record globally, with Europe experiencing significant heat impacts, especially in Northern and Southeastern regions.

During this heatwave, night temperatures also stay high, reducing relief and increasing health risks and infrastructure stress. Forecasts for the week following the heatwave continue to suggest high temperatures in affected regions, with maximums of 38 to 40°C expected in parts of Europe such as Iberia and Central Europe.

While no exact detailed forecasts were found for the entire July-to-September period for Central Europe, the available data points to the second notable heatwave in mid-late July 2025 with temperatures around or above 40°C in Central Europe, consistent with recent extreme summer heat patterns.

After the second heatwave, temperatures are expected to stabilize around 20 degrees. The next few weeks are expected to be cooler, with more rainfall, marking a return of summer temperatures after the cold and rainy period experienced in the last few weeks.
