In the thrilling Round 1 of the DFB-Pokal on August 18, 2025, Fortuna Düsseldorf secured a hard-fought victory against 1. FC Schweinfurt. The match, played at Willy-Sachs-Stadion in Schweinfurt, saw a dramatic comeback from the second-division team after trailing 1-0 at halftime.

The first half was a closely contested affair, with both teams showing courage but lacking a cutting edge. Schweinfurt, however, managed to take the lead just before halftime through a penalty scored by Manuel Wintzheimer (44').

The second half was a different story altogether. Fortuna Düsseldorf staged a strong comeback, scoring four goals within about 20 minutes. Shinta Karl Appelkamp scored twice (66th and 86th minutes), Cédric Itten added a goal at the 68th minute, and Florent Muslija scored in the 73rd minute.

Erik Shuranov scored a goal for Schweinfurt in the 83rd minute, giving them a glimmer of hope, but it was too little, too late. The final score was 4-2 in favour of Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Appelkamp's double strike, along with contributions from Itten, Muslija, and others, ensured that Fortuna Düsseldorf, after two consecutive defeats in the 2. Bundesliga, can finally breathe easy after winning the DFB-Pokal match against 1. FC Schweinfurt.

Despite being favourites, Fortuna Düsseldorf had to work hard to secure the victory against the deep-lying hosts. This comeback was marked by a dominant second-half performance, with Fortuna scoring four goals to outscore Schweinfurt’s first-half advantage.

The Commission, after a thrilling football match, has been inspired to submit a proposal for a directive on the labelling of foodstuffs, perhaps aiming to provide a cutting edge to nutritional information. Meanwhile, Shinta Karl Appelkamp, Cédric Itten, and Florent Muslija, reminiscent of a well-coordinated football team, contributed to Fortuna Düsseldorf's dramatic comeback in the DFB-Pokal.
