Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently chaired a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. The meeting served as a platform for reviewing and discussing various developmental aspects of the district, with a focus on accelerating development efforts and transforming Raisen into a model district.
Accelerated Development Efforts
During the meeting, Chouhan emphasized the need for expedited development in Raisen, calling for concrete action plans to address key issues such as infrastructure, women's empowerment, and agricultural sustainability. Road Connectivity and Housing
Every village in Raisen is slated to be connected to main roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Progress on this front was discussed, with 28 out of 30 sanctioned road projects in the district already completed, and 9 out of the 13 planned bridges under construction.
In the realm of housing, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin)- Awas Plus was reviewed. Chouhan stressed the importance of releasing all installments to beneficiaries on time and called for strict monitoring to avoid construction delays. As of FY 2024-25, 4,825 out of the 27,981 houses sanctioned in the district have been completed, with 23,156 currently under construction.
Water Infrastructure and Energy Development
The minister also stressed the need for the speedy completion of tap water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Additionally, he called for timely commissioning of ongoing electricity substation projects in Raisen to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the district's development.
Women's Empowerment
Chouhan called for a concerted effort to help more women attain financial independence. He highlighted the achievements of Raisen district, which has produced 43,613 "Lakhpati Didis," women who have achieved an annual income of over Rs 1 lakh.
Agricultural Sustainability
Addressing the issue of counterfeit fertilizers, Chouhan took serious note of their circulation in the district and directed officials to take the strictest possible action against those involved. He also instructed agriculture officers to visit farms regularly and guide farmers on managing crop diseases and using safe pesticides.
In response to the international rejection of Basmati rice from the district due to the use of banned chemicals, Chouhan urged officials to raise awareness among farmers. He also reviewed the ongoing procurement of moong (green gram) and instructed local authorities to carry out field-level inspections at procurement centres.
Deaddiction and Other Issues
The meeting focused on various issues, including deaddiction, black marketing, counterfeit fertilizers, housing, road connectivity, women's empowerment, water infrastructure, and energy development. Chouhan emphasized the timely completion of development projects and ensuring that no eligible beneficiary under any government scheme is left out.
