In an unexpected twist, controversial influencer Andrew Tate, known for his questionable antics, found himself slapped with a hefty fine this weekend. The Brit was caught whizzing through the picturesque village of Bujoreni, Romania at an eye-popping 196 kilometers per hour (km/h), when the speed limit was a mere 50 km/h.
As reported by BBC, Tate, who's currently battling charges of rape, human trafficking, and related offenses in Romania, the UK, and the US, was caught on camera driving at more than four times the allowable limit in this quaint Romanian village, which is about 184 kilometers from Bucharest.
Tate was hit with a £310 (about €370) fine and had his driver's license suspended for a whopping 120 days due to the gravity of the offense. The speed demon, who holds both British and American citizenship, has already rejected the allegations, labeling them as "totally false" and vowing to challenge the fine on Monday.
In a fiery post on the social media platform X, the man of many sports cars claimed he was pulled over at 6:15 AM on a deserted, country mountain road and booked for speeding. "They said I was clocking 197 km/h on a narrow road with a limit of 40 km/h - and, even though there was no one around, my license was suspended for four months, and I had to cough up a fortune in fines," he ranted, lamenting his inability to cover the hefty charges.
Tate even claimed he argued with the officer that the radar might have been improperly calibrated, but the officer ignored his explanation, pressing ahead with the bogus charges.
This speeding incident comes hot on the heels of May's accusations against Tate in the UK, charging him with ten crimes, including rape, serious assault, human trafficking, and profiting from prostitution, which pertained to three women. His brother Tristan, age 36, faced 11 charges, all related to a single woman.
The Tate brothers were nabbed by Romanian authorities at the end of 2022 and formally accused of participating in a criminal network that lured women to Romania, where they were allegedly sexually exploited. They currently await trial while ensconced behind bars.
Stay tuned for the latest updates in Tate's legal saga, as the story unfolds. The brothers have consistently denied the allegations, so it will be interesting to see how this sizzling pot continues to boil!
