Tom Pidcock Claims Second European Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championship Title
Tom Pidcock has once again proven his dominance in the world of mountain biking, securing his second European Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championship title at the 2025 European Championships held in Melgaço, Portugal.
The British cyclist, who is also the reigning Olympic Champion in the XCO discipline, displayed an impressive performance throughout the race, finishing with a time of 1:21:02, well ahead of his closest competitors.
Pidcock's victory was marked by a strategic and assertive race approach. After a competitive start led by Filippo Colombo, Pidcock took control mid-race, eventually pulling away solo to win by a large margin. This showcased both his physical strength and technical proficiency.
In the race, Pidcock joined and took over from a solo Aldridge halfway through the nine-lap race. Another notable competitor, Simon Andreassen of Denmark, finished third. Team-mate Charlie Aldridge, who put up a strong fight, came in second.
This win in Portugal was Pidcock's second continental title, adding to his first European Championship win in 2022. It was only his second XCO race of the 2025 season, highlighting his exceptional talent and preparation across various cycling disciplines. Earlier in 2025, Pidcock also secured his first UCI World Cup victory of the season (his eighth overall) in Andorra.
Pidcock's career achievements include being a double Olympic Mountain Bike Champion (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), multiple European MTB Championship titles (2022, 2025), a strong presence in road cycling with participations in the Spring Classics, the Giro d'Italia, and planned targets including the Vuelta a España in late August 2025. He is also ongoing contention for the rainbow jersey at the 2025 World Mountain Bike Championships.
With this latest victory, Pidcock's mountain bike career continues to flourish, underscoring his status as one of the dominant figures in elite cross-country mountain biking.
Tom Pidcock's victory in the European Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championship further showcases mountain biking as a thrilling sport. The British cyclist's strategic race approach in this XCO discipline adds another sporting title to his impressive career portfolio.
