Cracking Down on Missed Matches: Werder Bremen Tightens Season Ticket Rules

Frequent Underutilization of Season Tickets Prompts Werder Bremen to Implement Measures Against Speculative Fans - In our previous encounter, you were engrossed in numerous tasks.

Werder Bremen, a prominent Bundesliga football club, is taking action against season ticket holders who aren't making the most of their passes. The club announced that hundreds of season tickets will be re-released for sale this summer due to a lack of attendance at home games last season from their current holders.

In 2024, Werder enacted a rule stating that each season ticket holder must attend a minimum of 14 out of 17 Bundesliga home games. Any failure to comply with this rule results in the loss of the right to renew for the following season. Attending games in person, sharing tickets within family and friends, or reselling through Werder's official ticket platform all count towards ticket usage, according to a club statement.

Klaus Filbry, the managing director of Werder, expressed his bewilderment towards those who hold multiple season tickets but only show up for a few matches. "Demand for season tickets has been sky-high for years. It's baffling why some people snap up multiple tickets and don't make it to most games," he said.

Season Tickets and club membership are often prerequisites for purchasing season tickets, with some clubs offering priority access for members. Penalties for underutilization vary among clubs, ranging from incentives to resell or attend more games, to restrictions on future purchases. To stimulate attendance, many clubs engage in promotional activities, offer special deals, and implement loyalty programs.

Digital ticketing solutions, such as mobile apps and online platforms, are common practices for managing season tickets across Bundesliga clubs, promoting flexibility and convenience for fans. In terms of attendance strategies, dynamic pricing, themed matches, and community engagement are popular methods used by various clubs to boost attendance, especially during less popular games.

The European Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, as the issue of underutilization of season tickets, such as those held for Werder Bremen, the European football club, raises concerns double-edged in nature. Workers in industries involving ionizing radiation might encounter similar issues of workers not making the most of their passes, potentially putting them at risk due to missed opportunities for training and safety education.
