"In memory of Kirill Pokrovsky, whose unique contributions are still admired: ten years since his passing, Larian Studios honors the acclaimed composer"
A Decade Since Kirill Pokrovsky's Untimely Departure
Time sure flies, doesn't it? It's been 10 years since the unexpected passing of Divinity's legendary composer, Kirill Pokrovsky, at the ripe age of 53. To this day, his sudden absence left a gaping hole in the gaming world, particularly at Larian Studios, a studio he was an integral part of, composing the music for every game they produced up to Divinity: Original Sin - including the obscure gem, The LED Wars, only die-hard fans have ever laid ears on.
Maybe I'm just a cynical SOB, but it's downright comforting to see that even after all the progress Larian has made over these past 10 years - transitioning from Kickstarters to keep their lights on in Ghent, to sprouting seven offices worldwide, and giving Hasbro a swift kick in the nuts - Pokrovsky hasn't been forgotten. Larian penned an emotional message acknowledging that gaping hole he left behind:
"can't believe it's been 10 years since we lost you, Kirill." wrote Larian, "A mark left so deep, you’re still with us when the moments count, when we head into battle, and when the end credits roll. Forever cherished for who you were and what you helped achieve ❤."
To celebrate Pokrovsky's life and work, Larian created a YouTube playlist titled Remembering Kirill Pokrovsky. This collection of clips features Pokrovsky's live concert in support of the Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter, and some good ol' behind-the-scenes shenanigans.
"We'll never forget him," Larian's fearless leader, Swen Vincke, shared in his tribute on X, "A dear friend and an incredible composer. And also a very funny man."
Larian's initial tribute to Pokrovsky, posted shortly after his passing, remains available on Facebook.
