In a thrilling third league derby, Energie Cottbus emerged victorious against 1. FC Erzgebirge Aue, securing a 2:1 win. The match was filled with chances for both teams, but it was Cottbus who capitalised on their opportunities.

The game started off with a flurry of activity, as Cottbus pushed forward relentlessly. In the fourth minute, they had a golden opportunity to double their lead, but Butler's pass to Thiele and Cigerci was missed, leaving the score at 1:0.

Aue struggled to find their footing in the early stages, but they gradually began to assert themselves. At the 10th minute, the game settled down, with Cottbus trying to maintain control and Aue fighting to get back into the match.

However, it was Aue who struck first, equalising at the 15th minute. Stefaniak was dispossessed by Wortwitz-Grant in midfield, and referee Burda saw a foul. Aue responded swiftly, with Stefaniak finding Guttau in the box, who finished expertly to make it 1:1.

Cottbus responded by ramping up their attacking play in the second half, and they nearly regained the lead several times. However, they were unable to convert their chances, and the score remained level.

Aue, on the other hand, were criticised for their defensive approach and failure to make the most of their opportunities. In the 26th minute, Pelivan saw yellow for a foul in midfield, and in the 23rd minute, Majetschak also received a caution.

Jens Härtel, Aue's coach, expressed his disappointment after the match, while Claus Dieter Wollitz, Cottbus' coach, was satisfied with the six points from Sunday and today.

In the 67th minute, Cottbus finally managed to regain the lead, with Cigerci scoring the decisive goal. Aue made a triple substitution, bringing on Weinhauer, Clausen, and Uhlmann to replace Fabisch, Ehlers, and Stefaniak.

The match ended with Cottbus celebrating the derby victory, while Aue's crisis worsens. The hosts, TSV Havelse, also had several chances to make it 3:1 but were unable to convert.

In the summer of 2025, Aue had strengthened their squad by signing Jamilu Collins, Julian Günther-Schmidt, and Moritz Seiffert from Cardiff City, FC Ingolstadt, respectively. Despite this, they were unable to make an impact in this crucial derby match.
