Bayern Munich has bolstered its attack with the signing of Luis Díaz from Liverpool, in a deal worth around €75 million ($87 million), including add-ons. The Colombian winger, who was previously with FC Porto, will wear the number 14 jersey for the Bavarian giants.

Max Eberl, sporting director of FC Bayern Munich, expressed his delight at the acquisition, calling Díaz an internationally experienced player with immense quality, great skills, and a lot of reliability. Eberl also emphasised that transfers like this only work when every cog fits into the other.

Díaz's arrival at Bayern Munich comes after a period of significant expenditure by Liverpool, with the English club estimated to have spent over 300 million euros on new players this summer. Leroy Sané, who previously played for Bayern, has now transferred to Galatasaray Istanbul, while Mathys Tel has moved to Tottenham Hotspur.

The transfer of Díaz is Bayern's first major move since the Club World Cup and follows the departures of Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Mathys Tel. Notably, no new contract was offered to Müller, leading to his departure from the club.

Díaz's versatility will be a valuable asset for Bayern Munich, as he can play in the center, filling a gap left by the serious injury of DFB national player Jamal Musiala. The 28-year-old winger will strengthen Bayern's attack, providing a much-needed boost to the team following a series of departures.

Luis Díaz expressed his happiness about joining FC Bayern Munich, stating it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. The Colombian international arrived in Munich early Tuesday morning for medical examinations and to meet his new colleagues and explore the club facilities.

Bayern Munich had been searching for a new winger for some time and beat other clubs like Barcelona to secure Díaz, who moved despite Liverpool’s initial refusal to sell and his push for a transfer since 2024. The fee is among Bayern’s highest ever, especially for a player over 28 years old, and places this sale as Liverpool’s second biggest ever.

Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitike are among the players Liverpool has recently transferred in, while Díaz's contract with the English club was set to expire on June 30, 2027.

Díaz's transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich highlights a significant shift in European leagues, reinforcing the Premier League's recent spending spree and the Bundesliga's quest for superior talent. The Colombian winger's acquisition will fill the gap in Bayern's attack left by injuries and departures, contributing to a stronger team in the upcoming European-leagues football season.
