Flood Recovery in Tuapse District: Ongoing Efforts and Progress

Heavy rainfall hit the southeastern part of Krasnodar Krai, causing flooding in the coastal and foothill zones of the Black Sea coast. The Tuapse district was particularly affected, with an emergency situation declared.

In the village of Lermontovo, a bridge was destroyed, and in the village of Defanovka, a bus fell into a river. To address this, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev announced the restoration of a bridge in Lermontovo village, destroyed by strong currents of the Shaпsukho River.

Residents of Lermontovo can currently rely on water tankers for their water supply, as the water supply is expected to be partially restored by tomorrow, according to Deputy Head of the region Yevgeny Pergun. By the evening of August 7th, the central network in Lermontovo village will be restored, ensuring full water supply.

Emergency teams are working tirelessly to clear and pump water from flooded areas, but full restoration of road access is still in progress. Many roads became impassable and transport routes were suspended, isolating some communities.

Authorities are also working to restore electricity and drain flooded zones, which are prerequisites for reestablishing safe water supply. However, no direct updates on water supply restoration have been reported so far.

School repairs are another focus of the recovery efforts. By the start of the new school year, all classrooms, gym, and dining hall in the repaired school should be cleaned and ready to receive children. The third school in Novomikhailovsky settlement will also be repaired due to water damage. By September 1st, the repaired school in Novomikhailovsky settlement will be clean and ready for students to attend.

To prevent future flooding, Veniamin Kondratyev ordered the development of engineering protection. Streets in the settlements are being cleaned of water-borne debris.

In a positive development, construction of a temporary bridge in Lermontovo village will begin in mid-August. Meanwhile, residents can use a detour road, which is currently undergoing improvement.

Unfortunately, tourists were trapped in a ravine near the village of Fanasgoiskoye due to heavy rainfall. The situation is currently being managed by local authorities and emergency services.

Overall, emergency response includes evacuations and pumping floodwaters, but recovery efforts related to infrastructure like bridges and roads are ongoing with limited public update on school repairs and water supply restoration as of early August 2025. The community remains resilient in the face of these challenges, with authorities working diligently to restore normalcy.

  • In the general news, the Tuapse district is currently grappling with the aftermath of extensive flooding, with efforts focusing on bridge restoration and road access.
  • Climate-change is a potential factor to consider in these flood incidents, as the region's environmental-science may reveal patterns of increased heavy rainfall.
  • Despite the efforts to restore water supply in Lermontovo village, car-accidents, such as the bus that fell into a river in Defanovka, have made the situation more complex.
  • Weather-forecasting is essential for preparing communities and emergency teams in regions like Tuapse, as accurate predictions can help mitigate the impact of such disasters.
  • In the landscape of recovery, there is also a need for science-based solutions to prevent future flooding, such as implementing engineering protection and drainage systems in vulnerable areas.
