On the Rainy Day of May 30th
In Krasnodar, heavy rain caused streets and courtyards to flood, whereas a tree fell onto the road in Sochi.
Having a soggy start, May 30th saw the streets of the regional capital drenched in a torrential downpour. A fleet of 20 water-pumping machines stoically worked to clear the city.
"A machine like this can hold around ten cubic meters – that's roughly the size of an average puddle," explains correspondent Angelina Dozenko. "For this particular one, it would require no less than fifteen rounds to empty it. The water here is up to my ankle, and it's a bit chilling to take a step," she added, clearly not a fan of wading through the murky water.
Residents from some areas had to improvise their way through the flooded sectors. "Living on Moussorgsky Street, we've grown accustomed to the post-rain chaos," Natalia Sheles shared. "We place planks, stones, bricks, and even carry kids under our arms. This is our routine, rain or shine."
Apart from the inconvenience, the weather delay also caused thousands of workers to be late for their jobs. Despite the hiccups, the tram traffic in the Dmitrievskaya Dam area eventually resumed normal operations.
The rain's wrath wasn't contained just within the city. The Black Sea coast, too, felt its fury. In Sochi, a tree obstructed the road in the Golovinka village area, necessitating a detour. In some rivers of the Lazarevsky district, the water levels surged, but they remained below critical marks.
Furthermore, an automated sensor on the Psekupe River in the village of Fanoagorskoye was activated due to the increased water levels. Emergency responders were dispatched to keep tabs on the evolving situation.
On a brighter note, according to the Krasnodar's Weather and Environmental Monitoring Center, temperatures in the Kuban territory will gradually increase, reaching 22-27°C starting May 31st.
