In Kherson and Donetsk regions, Russian drones launch deadly attacks on a car and an ambulance, resulting in civilians being killed and injured. Evidence from the incident includes photos and videos.

In the turbulent month of August 2025, the Kherson and Donetsk oblasts of Ukraine have been the target of a series of drone attacks by Russian forces. These attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, injuries, and significant impact on local infrastructure.

On August 8, a tragic incident occurred in the suburbs of Kherson when a minibus was targeted by a drone strike, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and the wounding of 16 others. During the rescue operation for this attack, a second drone strike injured three police officers attending the scene. The Kherson District Prosecutor's Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation, considering this a potential war crime.

Earlier in the month, on August 4, a separate attack in the village of Antonivka in Kherson Oblast claimed the life of a 46-year-old man.

Later in August, a barrage of 55 Shahed-type drones was launched by Russian forces, with strikes reported across Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and other regions. In Kherson, four civilians lost their lives and six were injured. In Donetsk, three civilians were killed, and one died in Kharkiv. Additional casualties included 18 injured across multiple areas from missiles and drones overnight, with further injuries reported in the Sumy region, including a 7-year-old child.

Fortunately, Ukrainian forces were successful in downing the majority of the drones — 46 were reportedly shot down out of the 55 launched in one night. In Donetsk, Ukrainian forces targeted and destroyed a Russian drone command post and ammunition depot on August 22, striking the "Rubikon" drone unit, which is believed to have degraded Russian drone operations in the region.

These drone attacks have left a trail of civilian casualties and infrastructure damage in the Kherson and Donetsk oblasts, prompting investigations into war crimes while active military engagements continue. The attacks reflect ongoing tensions involving advanced drone warfare between Russian and Ukrainian forces in eastern and southern Ukraine in August 2025.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported the drone attacks in Kherson and Donetsk oblasts, but no further details about the identity of the victims or the exact location of the attacks were provided in the report. Firefighters were called to extinguish the fire caused by the drone strike on an ambulance in one of the attacks.

In the face of these challenges, the resilience of the Ukrainian people remains unwavering, as they continue to endure and rebuild in the midst of ongoing conflict.
