Frederik Ruppert, the hurdler who shattered the German record in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2025 Diamond League in Rabat, was celebrated by a whopping 3,000 spectators at the Karlsruhe Night Run. Being just 1,500 meters, he fell short against Marvin Heinrich from Frankfurt. The victor, though, clinched first place with a time of 3:35.62 minutes, setting a new German annual record. Despite pulverizing the German record in Marrakesh, Ruppert clocked 3:38.12 minutes in Karlsruhe.
"That hurt today," the 28-year-old Kerpen native remarked. "That's still a much higher pace than over the hurdles." He savored his post-record week, having evaded numerous inquiries, Ruppert shared. His next hurdles competition will be on the 17th of June in Turku, Finland.
Germany's steeplechase champion, Olivia Gürth from Trier, dominated the 3000-meter race with a new German annual best of 9:33.06 minutes. In the 5000-meter event, the reigning German 10,000-meter champion, Elena Burkard from Nordschwarzwald, succumbed to the Spanish athlete Idaira Prieto.
