In Dusseldorf, representatives from the SPD are choosing their candidates for the upcoming local elections

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Düsseldorf has announced its city council candidates for the upcoming local elections. The party aims to move forward with experience and a clear direction, as they renew their leadership and present a competitive candidacy for place 15.

A New Leadership and Competitive Candidacy

Zanda Martens and her deputies will not run again, marking a renewal of the SPD's leadership. Ioannis Vatalis has won the competitive candidacy for place 15, while Hakim El Ghazali, Katharina Kabata, and Burkhard Albes have secured positions seven, eight, and nine, respectively.

However, the search results do not provide specific information about the SPD's city council candidates beyond Fabian Zachel and Sabrina Proschmann. To find the names of the other candidates, it is recommended to check the official SPD Düsseldorf website, local Düsseldorf government election portals, or recent local election candidate lists published by the city or party.

New Faces and Veterans

The SPD city council list includes a mix of new faces and experienced members. Ulrike Hora, a newcomer, has made it to sixth place, while Elke Fobbe and Tobias Kühbacher, seasoned city council members, follow on the list.

Other new faces on the list include Franca Bavaj, Benjamin Tscholl, Eva Lingen, Masoud Ghahremani, and Sabine Humpert-Kalb. Among the first 20 places on the list, only seven candidates have previously held a seat on the city council.

Emphasis on Citizen Participation

Fabian Zachel, the nominated mayoral candidate, has emphasized the need for increased citizen participation in city governance. He received 137 out of 153 valid votes (89.5%) in the vote to become the mayoral candidate.

Zachel has criticized the incumbent mayor for hinting at solutions but accomplishing little, specifically in the areas of mobility plan D and housing construction. Sabrina Proschmann, who is number two on the city council list, will work alongside Zachel and the SPD team.

Quota-Based List and Uncontested Elections

The SPD city council list is quota-based, alternating between men and women, as stipulated in their statutes. All 41 candidates for the local election districts were elected without competitive candidacies.

The SPD's election campaign slogan is "not talking so much about ourselves, but speaking with the people." The conference to nominate Fabian Zachel as the mayoral candidate took place at the SPD's Johannes-Rau-House instead of a hall.

Marko Siegesmund applied for list position 15 but was unsuccessful. The age structure of the SPD city council candidates shows only three people over 60 and another three born in the year 2000.

Ioannis Vatalis has been chosen for the competitive candidacy in position 15, as per the SPD's city council list. The list, which includes a mix of new faces and experienced members, also features policy-and-legislation discussions due to the party's focus on citizen participation in city governance.

Ulrike Hora, a newcomer, secured the sixth position, showcasing the party's commitment to fresh perspectives in local politics. The SPD's emphasis on general news items can be seen in their election campaign slogan, "not talking so much about ourselves, but speaking with the people."
