In Baleares, Vox's export partners allege that the party misused funds and funneled them to the Abascal Foundation, enabling it to engage in illicit activities.
In a surprising turn of events, Idoia Ribas, former spokesperson for Vox in the Balearic Parliament, has accused the parliamentary group of transferring half of its allocation to the party's national coffers. Ribas, who is now a non-affiliated deputy, made these allegations at a press conference, stating that these practices are 'toxic' and disqualify a group of people who claim to lead a country.
Ribas alleged that two deputies, Patricia de las Heras and Gabriel Le Senne, were involved in a plot to provoke early elections in the Balearic Islands in January 2024, with the complicity of the provincial executive committee. The group voted in favor of the expulsion of both de las Heras and Le Senne, but the maneuver was thwarted.
The money transferred, Ribas claimed, ends up in the Disenso Foundation, an instrument of Vox's leader, Santiago Abascal. Ribas further accused the state leadership of Abascal's party of abusing those they consider a threat to their personal interests.
Ribas's allegations come after she was removed as spokesperson, with her successor, Manuela Cañadas, increasing the amount of funds transferred from 10% to 50%. Ribas responded to disqualifications against her and other former party officials by stating that Vox's organization is 'a Ponzi scheme with a sect-like structure'.
Ribas was joined at the press conference by Agustín Buades, another deputy who left Vox, and Maite de Medrano, a dissident Menorcan councilor. They shared their experiences of leaving the party due to 'lies, insults, and slander'.
The identities of the individuals who attempted to persuade the Vox parliamentary group to declare an exit from the parliamentary support relationship with the PP government in January 2024 have not been publicly disclosed.
This controversy has stirred up a storm in the Balearic Islands, with many questioning the integrity of Vox's leadership and their handling of public funds. The Balearic Parliament and Vox's national leadership have yet to respond to these allegations.
