In a significant escalation, Ukrainian drone attacks targeted multiple Russian regions between August 7 and 8, 2022. The affected areas included Kursk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, and others.

During this period, the Ukrainian Air Force reportedly launched four jet-powered drones and 104 Shahed-type strike and decoy drones overnight from August 7 to 8, indicating an intensification of drone activity around this time.

The cross-border shelling and drone raids were concentrated in Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk oblasts, which are near Ukraine’s border. These attacks primarily targeted military assets, arms, and oil industries.

The Rostov region had the highest number of intercepted drones, with nine, followed by Crimea with eight. The Bryansk and Saratov regions each had five intercepted drones, while the Kursk region had one. The Krasnodar Krai, Oryol, Tula, and even the Azov Sea waters each had one drone shot down.

In total, air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 43 Ukrainian drones over eight Russian regions. The exact types of drones intercepted were not specified in the report.

On the morning of August 8th, air defense forces shot down 13 Ukrainian drones in just 1.5 hours. The information about the intercepted drones was reported by the Ministry of Defense's press service in their Telegram channel.

Since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Russian regions have periodically been targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks. This latest surge in drone activity is a part of a wider pattern of Ukrainian drone strikes that included significant raids on Russian air bases in later months.

This strategic escalation in the air campaign into mainland Russia is evident through Ukraine's systematic use of Shahed drones, a type of Iranian-made loitering munition. These attacks underscore the ongoing tension and the need for heightened vigilance in the region.
