In a report by the General Staff, it is detailed that there have been 163 engagements with the enemy, with 45 of these battles happening in the Pokrovsk direction.
In the recent days, combat encounters on the front lines in Ukraine, particularly in Donetsk Oblast, have seen significant activity. The area near Dobropillia has been a focal point, with Russian forces making substantial advances.
Russian forces have breached Ukrainian defenses and are pushing towards the strategically important Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway. They have seized nearby settlements such as Kucheriv Yar, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, and Vesele, consolidating their positions for further offensives. This breakthrough has allowed Russian sabotage and reconnaissance units to slip up to six miles behind Ukrainian lines in just 48 hours, posing a threat to Kramatorsk—a vital Ukrainian-held city in the Donbas region.
The direction of the Russian push is mainly northward from Russian-occupied Donetsk (about 94 km southeast of Dobropillia), aiming to gain control over key routes and strengthen Moscow’s hold in Donbas. The advance towards Dobropillia puts pressure on Ukrainian defenses and is considered crucial as its capture could give Russia near-complete control of Donbas, which would bolster their position ahead of upcoming peace talks involving Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
On other fronts, Ukraine has also been conducting counteroffensives. Notably, an incursion into Russian Kursk Oblast started in August 2024. However, Russian priorities remain focused on defending Donetsk Oblast and reinforcing that sector despite losses elsewhere.
Over the past day, 163 combat encounters occurred on the front. On the Novopavlovsk direction, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled an enemy assault near Malynivka. On the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repulsed 45 enemy attacks in various settlement areas, including Zverovoe, Vladimirovka, Rodynske, Poltavka, Boikivka, Mirnolubivka, Novoeconomichne, Pokrovsk, Chervonyi Liman, Lisovka, Kotlyno, Udayne, Novoukrainka, Zelenyi Khutir, as well as towards Kazatske, Dorohyne, and Novopavlivka. On the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 24 times, trying to advance in various settlement areas. On the Toretsk direction, the enemy conducted 10 attacks in various settlement areas. On the South-Slobozhanskyi direction, nine combat encounters occurred in the area of Volchansk and towards Novovasylivka.
On the North-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, 12 combat encounters occurred over the past day. On the Kupiansk axis, seven enemy attacks were recorded in the past 24 hours. Ukrainian forces repelled assaults by the enemy in the areas of Miyrnyi, Kupiansk, Holubivka, and towards Novokryukivka. On the Orikhiv axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy attacks in the areas of Kam"yaniske and towards Novoselivka. On the Gulai-Polye axis, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled an enemy assault near Malynivka.
These developments are occurring shortly before planned peace talks in Alaska, heightening their urgency and potential diplomatic impact. The focus on Donetsk Oblast near Dobropillia and the Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway is a critical point to watch as it could significantly impact the future of the region.
