Flushing Out Bandits: DSS and Military Strike Near Kuchi Town

In a major blow to banditry in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with the military, have successfully neutralized approximately 45 bandits near Kuchi town. This operation, conducted discreetly yet aggressively, is another achievement in the ongoing battles against banditry in the region.

Under the Radar Strike

According to Daily Trust, the DSS's meticulous surveillance and monitoring of bandit movements thwarted an impending invasion of villages around Kuchi that would've targeted them for large-scale assaults. With an enormous force of around 100 armed bandits converging from Kaduna and Zamfara states, the security source revealed that the DSS launched a surprise attack just as they were approaching Kuchi town. In a fierce gunfight, several bandits lost their lives, while some were critically injured, and motorcycles and ammunition were recovered. However, five DSS operatives also sustained severe injuries and are currently hospitalized.

Targeting Kingpin Dogo Gide

Intelligence gathered through the agency's renewed covert operations suggested that the terrorists, originating from Bilbis forest in Maru LGA of Zamfara State and certain regions of Kaduna State, had been summoned by the notorious bandit kingpin, Dogo Gide, to launch attacks on Kuchi and the villages under its belt.

Ongoing Battles Against Banditry

Elsewhere in the country, bandits have persistently plagued various communities with kidnapping, livestock rustling, and extortion. Amidst growing concerns about the rising number of killings, the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, traveled to Benue State earlier this week.

Expanding Horizons

This successful operation marks another significant step in the DSS's ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable communities by disrupting and neutralizing bandit groups. Bolstered by improved intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts among security agencies, these operations are expected to continue, providing a sense of safety for local communities.
