In the world of cinema, the past few weeks have seen some impressive performances at the box office. Two films, in particular, have caught the attention of audiences and critics alike: Weapons and Freakier Friday.

Weapons, distributed by Warner Bros, has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, grossing approximately $167.5 million worldwide. The horror film, which tells a chilling story from the perspectives of several characters, has outperformed many 2025 releases and even surpassed multiple entries from the Final Destination franchise.

In its domestic opening weekend, Weapons raked in an impressive $43.5 million. The following week saw only a 33-43% drop in ticket sales, which is significantly lower than the usual 60% decline seen in the horror genre. This strong hold after the opening weekend has been a key factor in Weapons' success.

Freakier Friday, on the other hand, has had a slightly less impressive run. The film, distributed by Disney, debuted with a global box office of $44.5 million. Despite having nearly 800 more screens than Weapons at launch, Freakier Friday's opening weekend earnings were significantly lower.

In North America, Freakier Friday grossed $29 million in its 3-day domestic weekend, making it the best live-action comedy opening of the year so far. However, it still falls behind Weapons.

Freakier Friday has reached 85% of its international footprint, with earnings of $15.5 million across 46 international markets. Its top international market is Mexico, with an estimated $2.8 million.

In contrast, Weapons has earned $43.5 million in North America and $28.3 million from 72 international markets. The film has been rated with an A- CinemaScore rating in North America.

Here's a comparison of the two films' box office performances:

| Film | Global Box Office (Approx.) | Domestic Opening Weekend | Box Office Performance Highlights | |-----------------|-----------------------------|-------------------------|---------------------------------------------------| | Weapons | $167.5 million | $43.5 million | Outperformed many 2025 films, strong hold after opening weekend, crossed $155M in under 3 weeks[1][5][3] | | Freakier Friday | $44.5 million | $29 million | Best live-action comedy opening of 2025, but far behind Weapons[2][4] |

Other notable releases include Dongji Rescue, a Chinese war epic about the 1942 sinking of the Lisbon Maru, which opened with an estimated $27.1 million. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle has estimated takings of $14.6 million in Japan and Taiwan, bringing its total to $145.6 million.

Chinese historical drama Dead To Rights has earned an estimated $41.5 million in its 17th day of play, bringing its total to $306.7 million. It is the biggest haul for a Chinese film since Ne Zha 2 and Detective Chinatown 1900.

Nobody, an animation adapted from the classical mythological novel Journey To The West, has seen a big box office rise in its second weekend of play, with estimated weekend takings of $35.0 million.

Lastly, The Bad Guys 2, a sequel to The Bad Guys, has a global total of $84.3 million. It is performing ahead of its predecessor at the same point in international markets, with $40.7 million so far.

In the battle of the box office, Weapons has undeniably taken the lead, outshining Freakier Friday both in opening and total box office revenue.
