German Tennis Star Werth Clinches Title Once More Since Last Year - In a 2023 revival, Werth clinches German championship title once more, marking a gap since 2022.
After a prolonged hiatus of two years, eight-time dressage Olympic champion Isabell Werth from the equestrian town of Rheinberg has once again claimed the top spot at the German Championships.
In a thrilling race, Werth's victory in the Grand Prix Spécial came at the expense of Wendy Frederic Wandres and Bluetooth, and Katharin Hemmer with Denoix. Stepping into the realm of first-time show jumper victories, Stephi de Boer and Obvious, and Pure were hot on their heels.
Sophie Hinners on Iron Dames and Mylen Kruse with Lovelight trailed just behind, with the final positions decided only in the intense jump-off.
A Significant Step Towards The European Championships
Werth had clinched the Grand Prix title last Thursday, marking her latest win at the Kur in Balve back in 2024. The duo showcased an exceptional performance, earning 78.549% for a largely convincing act, although Werth herself admitted some room for improvement in the one-tempi changes.
"The horse was outstanding, unfortunately, the rider hasn't quite managed the one-tempi changes yet," Werth said frankly. "If that also goes well, then it's mega."
The next national showdown will take place on Sunday in the Kur. Last year, Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl reigned supreme. This year, she's taking the reigns of Diallo, finishing in tenth place in the Spécial.
