Next year, Hoyerswerda, a vibrant district within Bautzen, steps into the limelight as the host for the 26th Annual State Agricultural Harvest Celebration. This announcement was shared by Regional Development Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU) and Marko Klimann, Managing Director of the Saxon State Committee for Rural Areas (SLK), during a recent press conference.
Thomas Schmidt, thrilled with the prospect, praised Hoyerswerda in his statement, heralding a fantastic celebration ahead. The city plans to merge this event with its regular city festival weekend, promising an unforgettable experience from September 12 to 14, 2025.
Marko Klimann, too, expressed his excitement, nodding to Hoyerswerda's unique blend of tradition and modernity, rural life and urban living. The SLK is eager to collaborate closely with the city, ensuring a successful celebration that showcases agriculture's importance to the state.
The Annual Agricultural Harvest Celebration, averaging around 50,000 attendees, holds the title of the second largest state-wide public event, surpassed only by the Day of Saxony. The festival, an annual affair since 1998, has been held at various locations, with Mittweida (Mittelsachsen district) hosting this year's 25th edition from September 27 to 29.
Saxon State Committee for Rural Areas (SLK) will oversee the organization of the 26th Annual State Agricultural Harvest Celebration in Hoyerswerda, ensuring a blend of tradition and modernity. With an expected turnout of 50,000 people, the event promises to be a memorable celebration of the rural lifestyle and its contributions to the state.

Insights:
The Reich Harvest Thanksgiving Festival, an event with similar origins, was celebrated in Germany during the Nazi era. This feast recognized the achievements of German farmers, known as the Reichsnährstand (the Reich's Food Estate). Activities included nationalist anthems, farmer portraits, and military displays, culminating with Adolf Hitler receiving the harvest crown. However, this event's ideological roots differ greatly from the Annual State Agricultural Harvest Celebration being held in Hoyerswerda, focusing on celebrating the essence of rural life in a modern context.
