Imran Khan's Sons Lead International Campaign for Father's Release
Imran Khan's sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, have taken the frontline in demanding their father's release from jail in Pakistan. They have been leading protests, notably an August 5 rally marking the anniversary of Imran Khan’s "unlawful" arrest in 2023, and are lobbying internationally to press for his release.
The brothers have been facing government obstruction and threats, including visa difficulties and warnings against joining protests. However, they remain committed to their campaign. They have engaged with US lawmakers, human rights organizations, and policy groups, and have appealed to prominent figures such as former US President Donald Trump to intervene in their father’s case.
Sulaiman has claimed that Imran Khan is currently in solitary confinement for 22 hours a day. He has also expressed fears about their father's potential assassination in jail and his poor living conditions. Imran Khan has been in jail for nearly two years, serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges he denies.
Last month, Sulaiman and Kasim met with US Congressman Brad Sherman in Washington to campaign for their father's release. They have emphasized the need for authorities in Pakistan to respect democracy, the will of the people, and the rule of law.
Their efforts aim to reignite both public and international pressure on Pakistan’s government as Khan faces multiple trials and is serving sentences related to corruption and terrorism charges that his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claims are politically motivated to eliminate his influence.
Imran Khan's wife, Bushra, is also serving a jail sentence. Kasim has stated that President Trump has a good relationship with Imran Khan and could potentially make a difference in his case. He expresses desperation, wanting to do whatever they can for their father's release.
